How Facebook Is Helping Blind People 'See' Photos
Facebook is using artificial intelligence to help blind people “see” photos that appear in the News Feed. Sharing photos on Facebook is a great way for users to communicate, but it is challenging for people that are blind or visually impaired to enjoy the experience of the News Feed. Over two billion photos are shared every day across Facebook, Instagram and WhatsApp, but there are over 39 million people who are blind and over 246 million people who have a severe visual impairment. To help blind or visually impaired users understand what is happening on the News Feed, Facebook has launched a feature called Automatic Alternative Text.
