'Think before you speak'. A common saying, but how many people actually follow that maxim? Elizabeth Stokoe does, though as Professor of Social Interaction at Loughborough University, her work is more focused on thinking about what others have said.
Speaking at WIRED2015, Stokoe revealed the incredible detail that conversation analysts go into to pare down human speech, how to decode what people are actually saying to one another, and how you can predict -- and even control -- conversation. Put simply, Stokoe deals with "the science of talk".
