Facebook revokes internship after student points out privacy flaw


A Harvard student who built an app mapping Facebook users' whereabouts to less than a metre, has had his Facebook internship offer revoked.

Aran Khanna built the Chrome extension, Marauder's Map, after noticing just how many of the interactions in his Messenger app contained location data -- pretty much all of them. It's a quirk that was pointed out when the Messenger feature launched in 2011 -- every message you send and receive contains location data as default, and users have to opt-out.
