The ongoing campaign of online abuse against games commentator and video producer Anita Sarkeesian has been, and continues to be, totally extraordinary. And yet it is simultaneously and unfortunately, totally unextraordinary. The phenomenon of women who are experts in their field being attacked and undermined online is, after all, very common.
Sarkeesian is an expert in games and in feminism, but she is also an expert in analysis and in breaking down complex issues without dumbing them down. It is no surprise then, that she has turned these skills to breaking down abuse she herself has experienced.
