Sony scoops up gesture tech firm Softkinetic


From Minecraft creator Mojang to game engine Havok, it's usually Microsoft making announcements of acquisitions that benefit its gaming interests. Sony isn't going to be left behind in the battle for fringe tech though, having just netted gesture recognition and imaging software developer Softkinetic.

The Belgian company is "a provider of 3D vision technology for consumer electronics and industrial applications". That basically means it creates ways for users to control devices with gestures instead of touch, and enable the devices to monitor and map the 3D world around them.
