In the original Star Wars movies, R2-D2 was no more advanced than sticking Kenny Baker in a tin can. For JJ Abrams' upcoming Episode VII: The Force Awakens, the considerably more technologically challenging BB-8 has already won over legions of internet fans, largely on the basis of the seemingly impossible spherical droid not being CGI. And soon, you'll be able to have one of your very own.
Toymaker Sphero already made remote controlled robot spheres -- adding BB-8's floating head was the next logical step. The result is a 10cm tall real-life droid that can be controlled through a smartphone app.
