Why music video age ratings are practically pointless online


Online music videos will now display age ratings, as part of Conservative-backed efforts to protect the nation's children.

There's a few caveats though.

The age ratings will only apply to videos produced in the UK and uploaded to YouTube and Vevo, making it a very British form of internet policing. In addition, the only artists signed up to the initiative are those represented by major labels, including Sony Music UK, Universal Music UK and Warner Music UK. In a nutshell, this is not an incredibly effective method for protecting young people from material deemed unsuitable.
