'CLR01' molecule could block HIV, Hepatitis C and Ebola

A molecule that destroys HIV and Hepatitis C particles in semen has been successfully tested in zebrafish and mice.

CLR01, referred to as the "tweezer" molecule because of its shape, has been trialled by a team at the University of Pennsylvania and Ulm University in Germany, which believes the success of early trials indicates they have found a preventative measure for HIV -- it could be engineered into a vaginal or anal gel that instantly destroys virus particles.
